Happy Girl Hand Stamped Earrings

It’s easy to be happy in these DIY earrings that are stamped, hammered, dapped, and embellished with sparkling SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals. These are the perfect little pick me up on a cloudy day and a sweet little statement that you’re staying on the sunny side regardless of the weather!

Materials

Step one
Mark placement of letters evenly spacing around edge of blank about ¼” from edge with marker (don’t use a permanent marker so you can wipe them off.)

Step two
Begin stamping in the center with the letter “p.” Rock stamp on blank, hit firmly one time, lift and move to the next letter.

Step three
Continue stamping the letters as marked until you have stamped the word “happy” around the edge.

Step four
Wipe off marker

Step five
Mark the second blank as shown.

Step six
Stamp the word “girl.”

Step seven
Use the round end of the chasing hammer to add texture around the edges of the blank.

Step eight
Insert blank into 7/8″ dapping block impression as shown, stamped text facing up.

Step nine
Strike the top of the corresponding dapping tool with the flat end of your brass hammer while moving the round end around in the cup to form the blank into a concave shape.

Step ten
Repeat for second blank.

Step eleven
Use your finger tip or a cotton swab to apply paint to stamped areas.

Step twelve
Let sit for 30 seconds, wipe off excess with a soft cloth.

Step thirteen
Create coiled top dangles with head pins and beads.

Step fourteen
Turn ear wire loops sideways using chain nose pliers, this will allow your blanks to hang forward.

Step fifteen
Slide jump ring into stamped blank, looped dangle and loop at bottom of earring wire. Secure closed with chain nose pliers.

Step sixteen
Make second earring.

Wear your Hand Stamped Earrings with pride because you made them yourself! Go you!

Easy Metal Stamped Penny Necklace

Stamping on a curved surface is a great way to practice and master metal stamping. Stamping straight lines is challenging for beginners, but by marking and stamping around a curve, you can begin to get a feel for what it takes to make deep, crisp, even impressions. Here’s a simple, layered Metal Stamped Penny Necklace that features stamping letters on a curve and adding textures to metal blanks. Turn your lucky penny into a pretty keepsake, or make one for a friend featuring their birth year or a special date!

Non-permanent marker

Soft cloth or paper towel

Step one: Use a non-permanent marker to mark even placement of letters. Step two: Stamp the center letter. Step three: the bench block so the area you plan to stamp is facing you and stamp above your marks as shown to spell the word LUCKY. Be sure to hold the stamp straight, it needs to be in full contact with the blank to make an even impression. If you hold it straight and hit it firmly dead center, you should get a good impression. If you flinch while stamping, don’t lift your hand or move the stamp and you can hit it again. Step four: Use the round end of a chasing hammer to add texture to the flower blank as shown.

Step five: Strike surface of heart blank with texture hammer making a criss-cross pattern. Step six: Mark and pierce one of the petals of your flower blank. Step seven: Mark and pierce top center of penny. Step eight: Mark and pierce top left corner of heart as shown.

Step nine: Use a cotton swab or your finger tip and apply an even coat of acrylic enamel paint to surface of heart, dig the paint into the stamped areas. Wipe clean with a soft cloth. Step ten: Repeat the process with your stamped penny. Step eleven: Slide a jump ring through all three blanks, the penny is on top, then the flower, then the heart. Step twelve: Attach the jump ring to the chain, secure closed with tension using two pairs of chain nose pliers.

That’s it! If you don’t want to have the layers, just stamp the penny and attach it to a chain, key chain, earring wire, bracelet, or stamp a penny and give it as a keepsake without the pierced hole. DIY Flower Earrings

I love these flower shaped base metal stamping blanks, they’re so much fun to use in layers. These DIY Flower Earrings would be perfect with our Shine necklace, or on their own. Easy and fun to make out of copper blanks with just a single design stamp in a repeated pattern to add texture. Hammer, stamp, ink and layer and if you like you can make your own head pins and ear hooks using 20 gauge wire.

What you need:

Step one: Hammer the heart stamp into the center of the smaller flower blank repeatedly, this is to create texture. Use round end of chasing hammer to hammer flower. Step two: Use round end of chasing hammer to hammer larger flower blank. Step three: Use dapping tool to dap smaller flower into a curved shape.

Step four: Use hole punch to pierce holes in top center petal of both blanks. I use chain nose pliers to pull one of the petals on the smaller flower back a little so it hangs nicely. (If you want the stamped areas on the center of the blank to be more defined, use a cotton swab to wipe some acrylic enamel paint on the blank. Let set for 30 seconds and use a soft cloth or paper towel to wipe away the excess.) Step five: Cut a 1″ segment of wire. Bend and loop the ends using round nose pliers. Step six: Hammer the loop flat with the flat side of your chasing hammer.

Step seven: Slide bead on wire. Bend wire flush to top of bead at a 90 degree angle. Cut wire to 1/4″. Grasp end of wire and bend into a loop. Step eight: Your ear wire loop needs to be bent perpendicular so the earring will hang to the front when attached. Use your chain nose pliers to gently bend the loop. If it opens up, be sure to secure it closed. Your round nose pliers can help with that. Step nine: Assemble the layers large to small attaching them to the jump ring and the ear wire as shown.

That’s it! Fun, fast and fabulous. You can make these in mixed metals, add larger beads, use colored paint and make this project your own. Adding texture to your metal really gives it an artisan appeal and it is so easy to do. With winter looming, these pretty DIY Flower Earrings give you just a touch of spring even on the coldest days.

DIY Longitude Latitude Necklace

We just got back from a delicious week at the beach with family. We were in Ocean City, New Jersey, which is a lovely beach indeed. Still, my favorite beach by far is Tybee Island off of the coast of Georgia. I have a collection of shells from Tybee and I’ve been meaning to make this necklace for ages. The past week at the beach reminded me that I always leave a piece of my heart at the ocean. So, here is my favorite place in longitude and latitude. Step one: Use the 1/8″ number stamps to stamp your first two numbers, add the degree mark using the 1/16″ number stamps and the number zero. Step two: Continue stamping your numbers, using the apostrophes as shown. You can find the longitude and latitude of your favorite place with a simple Google search. I abbreviated my numbers as they were super long, you can opt to be more exact if you desire. Step three: The last thing you’ll stamp is the direction using the uppercase premium font. Make a stamped blank for longitude and a second for latitude.

Step four: Use the metal punch to pierce a hole in the bottom of each stamped blank. (Design tip: If you want the stamped areas to have more definition, swipe some paint across the top with a cotton swab and wipe off excess with a paper towel.) Step five: Stuff your tiny vial with shells and sand (or whatever you wish to represent your favorite place.) Step six: Add some max tacky glue to the cork and allow to dry. Add glue to the tiny screw bail and screw into center of cork, this turns your vial into a pendant.

Step seven: Tie a tiny piece of twine around the neck of your glass vial. Dab a little glue on the knot and let it dry. Step eight: Connect the stamped blanks to the pendant and chain as shown. Step nine: Attach a jump ring to the end of the chain and a clasp to the other.

Wear your lovely DIY Longitude Latitude Necklace any time you need a little virtual escape. I can almost hear the tiny waves coming from mine.

Okay, not really.

Still, it makes me smile and that’s something.

Happily Ever After Necklace

I work part time as the Creative and PR Director for ImpressArt. They are the world’s leading manufacturer of supplies for metal stamped jewelry making. Of course, having access to so much super awesome metal stamping stuff is a blast for a jewelry designer like myself. I consult with them sometimes on new products and I kept nagging them about doing a banner blank. I’m a writer, I liked the idea of a banner that you could use to write a story with metal stamped elements. I LOVE these blanks and I’m seriously smitten with this necklace. After all, who doesn’t want to live happily ever after?

Step one: Using the three fonts, stamp the words happily, ever and after on the three blanks. I used Juniper for happily, Newsprint for ever and Jeanie for after. Step two: Use the round end of your hammer to gently tap around the edges of your blanks adding texture.

Step three: Apply a thin layer of paint to the surface of each stamp using a cotton swab. Let this sit for 30 seconds. Wipe off with a paper towel. Step four: Use your chain nose pliers to connect the blanks together with the large jump rings.

Step five: Connect the banners to the chain on both sides using the larger jump rings and your chain nose pliers. Step six: Attach the clasp to the other end of your chains using the smaller jump rings.

That’s it! Stamp it up and enjoy your DIY Happily Ever After Necklace. Simple and simply charming, yes? You can use these banners to make all sorts of wonderful story book themed jewelry. What would you do with these? Let us know in the comments!

10 Minute Craft: Bottle Cap Necklaces

These adorable little Bottle Cap Necklaces can be made in under 10 minutes so they’re perfect for the short attention span crafter! They make a fun project for teen parties, ‘girl’s night in’ gatherings or even summer camp art projects. You can find the pre-crimped bottle caps at craft stores and online. Just add a stamped metal blank and a sparkling SWAROVSKI crystal and you’re ready to rock and roll, baby. Good times!

You will need:

Vintage Bottle Caps

Step one: Use 2-hole punch to make a hole in the top center of bottle cap. Step two: Stamp “p o p” into blank. (You could also stamp ‘s o d a’ or ‘c o l a’.) Step three: Punch hole in top of blank. Step four: Slide crystal on head pin and coil top. Cut off excess wire, tuck under. Step five: Swipe ink across surface of blank with cotton swab, wipe off excess with paper towel. Attach bottle cap, blank and crystal together with jump ring. Step six: Slide pendant on ball chain.
